Description

In his quest to capture the essence of Ireland, Gerald Hoberman travelled the length and breadth of the Emerald Isle. Along the way he chronicled the breathtaking beauty of the Irish countryside, the urban charm of its cities, and the beguiling nature of its people. Here you'll find prehistoric burial tombs and stone circles, high crosses and castle ruins, hidden loughs and verdant valleys, ancient cathedrals and round towers. In the towns and cities, the focus is on architecture, murals, pavement artists, musicians, markets and the traditional Irish pub. The author has set out to capture the drama of the island's history, the poetry of the landscape, and the songs in the hearts of people, and has recorded some of its valuable traditions, arts and crafts. Accompanied by Maggie Davey's text, this book should interest every lover of all things Irish, whether citizen, descendant or visitor.
