In 1893, Edward Headly Hallack visited orchardists and market gardeners in the Adelaide Hills, and the lively accounts of his visits were published in local newspapers of the day.
In 1987, Dr Geoffrey C Bishop published a book of Hallack’s articles about people and places north of Mount Lofty.
Hallack also made visits south of Mount Lofty. He visited Crafers, Stirling, Upper Sturt, Ironbank, and Brownhill Creek.
Descendants of many orchardists and market gardeners he visited still live and work in the same places. They have contributed photographs and stories about their ancestors and the beautiful surroundings in which they toiled for their living.
The Toilers of the Hills, Part 2: South of Mount Lofty gives a unique insight into a special part of the glorious Adelaide Hills.
