Alvar Aalto. Technology and Nature
Author(s): Ywe Jalander
The Finnish architect Alvar Aalto is one of the great figures of modern architecture. Reacting against the Art Nouveau style, he developed his own distinctive idiom via a series of buildings, such as the Library at Viipuri (1927-1935), that are considered classics of the International Modern style in architecture. This video, directed by Ywe Jalander, analyzes Aalto's successful resolution of the demands and possibilities created by new technology and construction materials, with the need to make buildings sympathetic to both their users and their environment.
