Jack Tree and Kaavi Noname live on a large island called Aurelia, in the Southern Ocean 'but a bit more northerly'. They meet 11 year Jodie Jones, a survivor of a shipwreck. Jodie has rescued a copper statue of a very young girl with a cart and a goat, which, to her surprise, came to life. As the child cannot speak, she has no idea who this mysterious toddler is. Jodie decided to call the child Hazel and announces to Jack and Kaavi that Hazel must be a princess because she appears to have the power to control the weather and only princesses can do that! They learn that Tulgon, a sorcerer from the the island of Kraag, stole the child from her mother and they determine to reunite the two. This is the beginning of a series of adventures in which they come across those who help them, like the Weird Frog, and those who make life very dangerous for them. And all the time they are stalked and hindered every step of the way by the treacherous Tulgon...
