Rose Marshmary, Mary Rosemarsh, and Marsh Maryrose are three cousins who star in this morbidly amusing tale of misfortune at the marsh. The Deranged Cousins, one of Edward Gorey's most popular stories, brings each to an untimely demise, with key roles played by a seemingly innocuous old doorknob, leftover vanilla extract, and an unusually high tide. Gorey (1925-2000), a brilliant writer and illustrator, created a wealth of wonderfully wicked small books. Highly regarded as a stage and costume designer as well, he is one of the twentieth century's most treasured artists.
