The Best of Punch Cartoons in Colour

Author(s): Helen Walasek

Humour

The "Best of Punch Cartoons in Colour" is a superb new book. This, the biggest collection of colour cartoons ever released from the original humour magazine that first published in 1841, is packed with beautiful artwork by some of the finest artists of the past two centuries. The page size is huge, showing the cartoon art and colour off in the best possible manner. And at 400 pages, this book is an essential purchase for any fan of cartoons, visual humour, or of the legendary "Punch" magazine. "Punch" was published in America after WWII, and subscriptions from the "other" side of the Atlantic remained steady until 1992, when the magazine closed.

Product Information

Helen Walasek, of Punch Cartoon Library, is the former curator of the Punch collection and editor of The Best of Punch Cartoons and Punch Goes to War.

Beautiful full-colour cartoons adorn all the pages of this magnificent tome. Punch featured colour imagery for almost 100 years, from early in the twentieth century, and was seen as such an important publication that during WWII special dispensation was given to keep it running in colour. Many of Europe's best cartoonists contributed to the magazine, often in colour, as this book shows off. Introductions, biographies, and special features are brought to the readers' attention by Helen Walasek.
